Vellum (from the Old French Vélin, for "calfskin") is mammal skin prepared for writing or printing on single pages, scrolls, codices or books. It is generally thin, smooth and durable. Modern "paper vellum" is used for a variety of purposes, especially for plans, technical drawings and blueprints.
The Pantone Colour Matching System is largely a standardized color reproduction system. By standardizing the colours, different manufacturers in different locations can all refer to the Pantone system to make sure colours match without direct contact with one another.
